Frequently Asked Questions

Whenever you have work done in your home by a contractor or if you do the work yourself the proper permit must be pulled. Usually the contractors will pull their own permits. Once the work is completed the Building Inspector should be contacted to do a final inspection of the work.

Mainly for your own protection and satisfaction that the job was done correctly according to State Code. The Town of Grafton is responsible to be sure all work done on homes in town are done to State standards. This is especially important when you go to sell a home, many realtors and potential home buyers want to know and see the permits and inspection reports for work you have had done in the home.

Any changes that are to be done such as:

Electrical - additional outlets, new service, new fixtures, new lines, etc.
Plumbing - New lines ran for new fixtures, etc.
HVAC add-ons or replacements Furnaces & Air Conditioner, new Heat runs, etc.
Anytime you add on to home or take down walls or put up new walls.
You DO NEED permits for new ROOFS, SIDING & WINDOWS&  DORMERS – use Building Permit  SOLAR PANELS – Use Electrical Permit.
